Do Fortune 500 Drug Companies Drug Test?
Out of the Fortune 500 companies we have information on, 70% had at least one user report that the company performs some form of drug testing. This is actually higher than what we see in the overall database, where the percentage of companies where at least one user has reported some form of drug testing is about 45%. This suggests that Fortune 500 companies are more likely to drug test employees than non-Fortune 500 companies. What could be the cause of this? While it could simply be that Fortune 500 companies have the money and resources to conduct drug tests, it could also reflect the type of companies that are likely to be high enough in revenue to make it to the Fortune 500. As we’ve discussed in earlier posts, some industries, such as manufacturing and healthcare may be more likely to drug test than others, as the consequences of employees working under the influence are particularly detrimental.
In the list below, we have provided a brief description of each company, with company descriptions courtesy of CNN Money’s company profiles. We have stated whether each company drug tests by indicating “yes,” “no,” or “sometimes.” We have found that for some companies, such as Amazon and Target, drug testing may vary by location and role. For companies that we’ve classified as “sometimes” drug testing, click the name of the company to see the True Negative's company page and use the “Job title” filter to figure out which roles within the company users have reported they’ve been drug tested.
As always, these results are based on what users have reported. For companies that we’ve stated do not drug test, there’s always a possibility that some employers are drug tested but not others. In companies that we’ve stated do drug test, there’s always a possibility that others within the company are not drug tested. The most certain advice we can give is to expect a drug test if we indicate that a company drug tests.
